Description:
For fiction- and nonfiction authors, classroom adoption of a book is an opportunity not only for sales but also for deeper reader engagement with your work. But this can't happen unless the book aligns with the "standards," the learning outcomes that drive curriculum and instruction. With separate and layered standards for every discipline, pinpointing your book's alignment is daunting at best.
This webinar will provide an overview of Michigan's K-12 standards (language arts, math, science, and social studies) and show ways to align your work to respond to teachers' on-the-ground needs. After clarifying the difference between standards and curriculum, the program will examine the organization of the standards, the demands on teachers, and examples of strong and weak alignment for both fiction and nonfiction. Participants will walk away savvier about the standards and how they can present their work in ways teachers will embrace.
